1200 new apartment units could be coming to the South Shore Shopping Center between 2025 and 2045. Bay Area county officials released the latest count of homeless people showing Oakland surged 47% per-capita between 2017 and 2019 now higher than SF and Berkeley.

Experts say it's due to drug addiction, mental illness and a lack of housing. As the deepening housing crisis affects Alameda, the city council looks to increase the number of affordable housing and in addition to increasing rent control policies to protect renters.

The Jamestown project will add 15% more affordable housing in Alameda while the remainder will be at market value. The project would include retail and commercial shops as well. Jamestown will have a pop-up tent to promote their project near the South Shore car wash on August 1st and Sept.1st. No environmental impact report or city planning report has been done yet.
